14 days of V-Day fun : Day 7 (Valentine’s Day cake pops)

14 days of V Day fun series

Today’s treat is Valentine’s Day cake pops! :)

Cake pop valentines-19

Trust me, I am aware that there are a trillion cake pop tutorials on the internet. Make that a trillion and one, because I didn’t want to write a post saying “I made cake pops today!” without showing you how I made them. Make sense? :) So, let’s get to it!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Cake pop valentines-2

-One boxed cake mix
-1 tub of frosting
-Candy melts (as many colors as you want)
-Lollipop sticks
-Sprinkles
Optional: Treat bags (for packaging) and ribbon (for decoration)

First step? Follow the directions on the cake mix box.Cake pop valentines-3

Next, bake your cake as you normally would. I used two round cake pans.

After your cake(s) come out of the oven, let it COMPLETELY cool, then do the unthinkable.. Cake pop valentines-5
Yep, dump it into a bowl and mash it all up. :)

Next, add a few heaping spoonfuls of frosting.

I can’t tell you an exact amount of icing that you need to add, as it will vary. Just add a few spoonfuls of icing and stir.

This is what it will look like:

Next, start rolling your cake/frosting mixture into balls.

Melt a small portion of your chocolate, then dip the end of a stick in. Immediately push the stick into the center of one of your cake pops.

Place them on a plate/baking sheet/whatever and put into the freezer for about an hour.
MAKE SURE you let them come back to room temperature before dipping them into the chocolate, or they will crack!Cake pop valentines-14

Melt your chocolate and dip your cake pops into it. Tap the stick gently on the bowl to shake off excess chocolate. TIP: If you cannot get your chocolate thin enough, add in 1-2 tablespoons of shortening (Crisco).Cake pop valentines-16
After that, quickly add on sprinkles or other decorations before the chocolate dries!

They taste good, sprinkles or not.

Ask me how I know.. :)

Ugh.. SO good!

  13. I thought it was also complicated, but I learn how to do them, while shopping at target, I found a book. I took a quick look into it and saw the same method you showed us today. So no need to buy the book. And thanks to your tutorial I know think I could do them at home. One day soon.....
