14 days of V-day fun: Day 1 (Heart bird feeders)

14 days of V Day fun series

Hello, and welcome to the very first day of my blog series, 14 days of V-Day fun! I am so excited for this series, and I hope you will visit my blog each day to see what I have in store! :)

Today’s fun project is..
Heart bird feeders!

I saw the idea for this project over at Laurie Gallamore’s blog (Gallamore West). It is a fun project, that is easy and doesn’t cost much at all.. Can’t beat simple and cheap, if you ask me! ;)

Ingredients:Valentine's day heart bird feeder ingredients

-2 cups of your favorite wild birdseed
-1/4-ounce package of unflavored gelatin
-Heart shaped cookie cutters
-Hemp/twine
Also, (not pictured) non-stick cooking spray and tin foil.

Instructions:
1 - Bring 6 tablespoons of water to a boil.
2- Empty one 1/4-ounce package of unflavored gelatin (I used Knox brand) into 2 tablespoons of cold water in a large bowl.
3 - Let the gelatin sit for 1 minute, then add the boiling water and stir for 2 to 3 minutes or until the gelatin has dissolved.
4 - Stir 2 cups of your favorite wild birdseed into the gelatin, mixing thoroughly. Let the mixture set for a few minutes, then stir again. Repeat this process a few times, if necessary, allowing the seed to absorb the liquid.
5 – Cut a piece of tin foil to be slightly larger than your cookie cutter and spray with cooking spray.
6 – Place heart shaped cookie cutter on foil and spoon your seed/gelatin mixture to fill your cookie cutter.
7 – Place a small piece of straw in the top of your heart to make a hole for your twine to go through.
8 - Place the hearts (still in the cookie cutters) in the refrigerator or a cool room and let them set for at least 3 hours.  Allow them to air-dry overnight.
9 - Finally, tie hemp/twine through your hearts and hang them outside!

Here is what they look like when they’re done:
